In part one of this two-part blog series, we went over some of the numerous benefits of taking your child or teen to a chiropractor regularly. From vital developmental areas to injury treatment and several others, chiropractic care can hold just as many benefits to younger people as to adults – and sometimes even more.
At Apollo Health, we’re proud to offer a variety of chiropractic care services, from whiplash recovery to neck pain relief and many others. We also happily serve younger adults and children who are in need of adjustments, massage therapy or any of our services. In today’s part two, we’ll go over a few other major factors and benefits associated with chiropractic care for children and teens.
Teens and Posture
One vital area for many children and teens, both in the short- and long-term, is posture. Teens and adolescents, in particular, are often known for having extremely poor posture developed over years of sitting in classrooms and at desks all day. Computers, cell phones and other items that lead to slouching just contribute even further to these issues.
Poor posture can lead to concerns both now and in the future. Many young adults already begin having back or neck pain even in their teenage years due to poor posture, and this also risks long-term spinal alignment problems such as a straight neck.
It’s important to note that the spine is not only a major bodily area in need of care for its own reasons – it also protects other areas, and one of the most important is the nervous system. A misaligned spine will lead to several issues directly related to the nervous system, including several that speak directly to child development over the next period of years.
In fact, many parents have no idea how connected the spine and nervous system are to many of the common conditions some children or teens experience. Did you realize ear infections can be limited or prevented by a strong spine and nervous system, but are more common in children with poor spinal alignment? The same can be said about issues like asthma, allergies and even the tendency to wet the bed in young children.
Finally, chiropractic care has several positive effects on the development of both the brain and nerves, areas known as neural plasticity. It can be enormously beneficial to many children in terms of proper development, plus is valuable for proper awareness on conditions like ADHD, SID and other neurodevelopment risks.
